A native of Bonita, LA, Susie “Big Sue” Fudge made her presence known at Coahoma during the 1978 and 1979 basketball seasons. An intimidating presence in the paint, Fudge averaged 25 points per game under Head Coach Ella Stampley-Morris as a two-years starter for the Lady Tigers. During her time at CCC, the women’s basketball team had its most successful season carrying a No.2 national ranking. The team averaged scoring 102 points per game and won the Mississippi State title in 1979 and advancing to the regional tournament. The powerful lefty was an unstoppable and intimidating presence down low for Coahoma and her ability earned her a scholarship offer from Arkansas Northeastern College. Fudge graduated from CCC with an associate’s degree in Physical Education and attended college briefly before her commitment to her family called her back home to be a caregiver for her parents. Having always had a passion for hairstyling, she attended beauty school in Bastrop, LA and upon graduating opened her own salon and has been self-employed for the last 28 years. Fudge said she remembers her time at Coahoma fondly, “I loved my time at Coahoma. I made some lifelong friends, and I’m still in contact with many of the people I met while I was there. Although we haven’t seen each other in years, we still talk on the phone regularly. I am also still in contact with (Coach Ella Morris-Stampley). I remember her being a really tough coach, but she also cared about all of us!
