A shooting guard and prolific scorer, Marcus Torrell Metcalf played basketball at Coahoma Community College from 1996-1998 under Coach James Washington. He grew up in Clarksdale and graduated from Coahoma Agricultural High School and played basketball before being offered a scholarship to play at CCC. He averaged scoring better than 20 points per game at Coahoma and was elected to play in the Mississippi State All-Star game after his sophomore season. He earned his associate’s degree in General Education at CCC before transferring to Mississippi Valley State to play basketball, run track and continue his education. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and taught computer classes for several years at the Shelby Training Center in Memphis before transitioning careers to work with special needs children in the Shelby County School District. Thinking back to his time at Coahoma, Marcus said, “Attending Coahoma Community College taught me leadership skills and allowed me to develop both physically and mentally. Playing basketball at CCC made me stronger and gave me the chance to mature on and off the court. For me, attending CCC was a great start and the right choice rather than jumping directly into a four-year college.”
