Lucas-Whitfield is a graduate of Forrest City High School in Arkansas, where she averaged 28 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists as a four-year starter. She was named All-Conference and All-State each year of her high school career and was an Honorable Mention High School All-American her senior season. She was inducted into her High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Lucas-Whitfield joined the CCC Lady Tigers in the 1988-89 season. A two-year starter for Coach Ella Stampley-Morris, Lucas-Whitfield averaged 23 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals per game. She garnered several honors while playing for CCC. Her Lady Tiger playing career ended with a special moment when she was named the Mississippi Junior College All-Star game MVP in 1990. She graduated from CCC with an Associates and Arts Degree in Social Science. Lucas-Whitfield accepted a scholarship offer to continue her playing career at Jackson State University and was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year in 1991. After a successful two years at Jackson State University, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She joined the Jackson State University Women’s Basketball staff as Graduate Assistant in the 1992-93 season and earned a Master’s in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. She is married to former Jackson State Standout and NBA player, Dwayne Whitfield. They have two children, LaShunda and Dwain, who is currently a freshman with the Mississippi Valley State Men’s Basketball Team. Lucas-Whitfield is employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Forrest City, Arkansas where she is a Recreation Specialist.Â
