Tigers with Second Win Split over the Lions

CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College Tigers split a doubleheader with East Mississippi Community College on Tuesday at home, falling 14 to 3 in Game 1 before earning an 11 to 5 victory in Game 2 behind a six-run sixth inning. East Mississippi took control early in the opener. Whiteside hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and an error in the second extended the lead to 3-0. East Mississippi added six runs in the third inning and pulled away with a grand slam by Mitchell in the eighth. Bryson Ford started on the mound for Coahoma and allowed 10 runs, nine earned, on nine hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked three. At the plate, Bryce Williams went 3 for 3 to lead Coahoma, while Gregory Fore added two hits. The Tigers recorded eight hits in the game. Mitchell drove in five runs for East Mississippi, while Mitchell and Russell each collected three hits. Coahoma responded in the second game with a strong offensive showing. The Tigers scored first on a wild pitch in the opening inning, then added two runs in the second after Gregory Fore drew a bases loaded walk and Bryce Williams delivered an RBI single. The Tigers broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring six runs. John Wyatt Massey singled to drive in two runs, Anderson Walker doubled to bring in three, and Landon Smith added an RBI single. Conner Timbs earned the win, allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked four. Andrew Woods appeared in relief. Coahoma finished with 10 hits in Game 2. Bryce Williams led the team with three hits, while Anderson Walker drove in three runs. Landon Smith added two hits, and Gregory Fore drew three walks as the Tigers worked eight walks in the game. Coahoma turned two double plays. Russell led East Mississippi with two hits in the second game. Bullard, Mitchell and Willis each drove in one run. East Mississippi did not commit an error in either game.
