Coahoma Baseball wraps up productive fall camp, eyes spring success

CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Following the conclusion of its fall exhibition schedule, the Coahoma Community College baseball team is shifting its focus to winter conditioning, building on a foundation of "Great Effort, Committed Attitudes, and Intently Together" under head coach Austin Biggs.

The Tigers welcomed 19 new players to the program this fall, integrating them into the collegiate level while emphasizing daily development. Biggs noted the team's visible growth not only on the diamond and in the weight room but also in their overall maturity and response to adversity.

"We talk a lot about how development leaves evidence," Biggs said. "If you show up every day, put in the work, and do it with the right attitude, you're going to get better. It might not happen as quickly as you'd like, and there are going to be some ups and downs, but that work is eventually going to show up. I think we saw that this fall."

During fall exhibition play, Coahoma showcased significant offensive potential. The Tigers achieved their goal of 50 percent quality at-bats and demonstrated aggressive base running, successfully stealing on 20 of their 23 attempts against outside competition. Defensively, the pitching staff effectively controlled the running game and increased its overall fastball velocity, with some pitchers gaining up to 5 mph.

Heading into the winter conditioning phase, the program's primary priority is increasing functional strength. Offensively, the coaching staff will focus on maintaining hard contact while refining plate adjustments. On the mound, pitchers will continue developing their ability to locate multiple pitches for strikes. Defensively, the staff will prioritize steadying the middle infield, where five new players competed during the fall.

Ultimately, Biggs expects his roster to take ownership of their continuous development between now and opening day.

"We also want to keep growing together as a team," Biggs added. "We've talked a lot about being more aware of our teammates, communicating positively, and picking each other up when things don't go our way. That's what Intently Together means to us. It's about trying to support each other, but also being willing to challenge each other to be better."
