Lee Hodge was looking for a signature win to catapult the Tigers. Coahoma came off a victory against Northeast Mississippi Community College on Wednesday. They would have to step their game up on the road against #14 Hinds Community College. Both Teams was in a war of attrition. The Tigers split the doubleheader winning game one (13-10) and losing game two (10-5) on Friday Afternoon.
In the 1st game, Coahoma took the lead late in the game in a 13-10 victory. The game was tied at ten in the top of the tenth inning when the Tigers scored three runs.
Deonteau Rieves got a 2-RBI double.
Coahoma took an early 2-0 lead on a 2-RBI single by Marquellis Edgeston.
Hinds (18-6, 4-4 MACJC) took a 4-2 lead in the third inning when Ian Ladner doubled, scoring two runs.
The Tigers scored two runs in the fourth inning. Edgeston and
Kyler Johnson got a pair of RBI singles tying the game 4-4.
The Eagles scored two runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead. Patrick Hodges got an RBI double.
Joe Gee got an RBI single in the sixth inning cutting the lead to 6-5.
Hinds scored two runs in the seventh inning. Miller Hancock got an RBI single extending the lead to 8-5.
Coahoma exploded with five runs in the eighth inning. Rieves,
Matthew Newcomb,
Christopher Pittman, and Zac Gilder chipped in with RBI singles.
The Eagles came back to tie the game at 10-10. Stanton Todd got an RBI double and Hodges got a solo homer.
Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Coahoma collected 19 hits and Hinds had 12. Ladner, Todd, Hodges, Carson Klepzig, and Luke Clement each racked up multiple hits for Hinds.
Staton Todd led things off on the hill for Hinds. He allowed six hits and four runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Brennan Cortez and Carson Stinnett entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three innings and two innings respectively.
Wyatt Bailey was the winning pitcher for Coahoma. He allowed two hits and one run over two and third innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Rafael De Leon threw four and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Coahoma tallied 19 hits in the game. Rieves, Johnson, Gilder, Gee, Edgeston and
Alexis Rodriguez all had multiple hits. Rodriguez, Gilder, Johnson, and Rieves each collected three hits to lead the Tigers.
In the 2nd game, Hinds bounced back splitting the doubleheader with a 10-5 victory.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Andrew Beesley.
Coahoma came back with three runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The game changed drastically when Cole Whitfield got an RBI single. Todd was going to third when Rieves throws to Johnson for the tag. The umpire made a controversial decision by calling Todd safe.
"It was a horrific call, and it hurt me that inning," said Coahoma Head Coach
Lee Hodge. "That call changed the game."
Luke Clement steps up with an RBI single giving Hinds a 4-3 lead.
The Eagles scored six runs in the fourth inning. Todd and Nathan Babb got a pair of 2-RBI doubles extending the lead to 10-3.
The Tigers cut the lead in half with a 2-RBI double by Gilder.
Hinds tallied 13 hits in the game. Whitfield, Todd, and Beesley each collected multiple hits. Whitfield went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Eagles in hits.
Caleb Danzy led things off on the hill for Hinds. He allowed three hits and three runs over one and two-thirds innings.
Jerod Bronson started the game for Coahoma. He went three and a third innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking one.
Austin Pace threw two and two-thirds innings in relief.
Coahoma totaled nine hits. Johnson, Newcomb, and Bumpous each racked up multiple hits. Bumpous, Newcomb, and Johnson each managed two hits to lead the Tigers.
"We played outstanding. Hinds is outstanding and a well-coached team," said Hodge. "To go to anybody's place to win is tough. If you play consistent against a top 20 team, you can play against anybody in the country."
Coahoma goes to (15-13, 3-7 MACJC) on the season. They will continue MACJC Conference play against Northwest Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 4, 2018, at Eddie C Smith Sportsplex. It will be part of a doubleheader followed by game two at 3 p.m.
