Box Score SUMMIT- Coahoma needed to bounce back after a tough doubleheader against Itawamba. They went on a business trip to Summit, MS. on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers wanted to finish the week strong against Southwest Mississippi. They took care of business by sweeping the Bears 7-3 and 10-5.
In the first game, Coahoma was victorious over Southwest 7-3. The Tigers got things started 3-0 in the first inning.
Marquellus Edgeston grounded out, scoring one run.
Kyler Johnson got an RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Alexis Rodriguez came through with an RBI single.
Southwest (9-24, 5-15 MACJC) got on the scoreboard 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning. T Tez Cole steps up with an RBI single.
Rodriguez came through again with an RBI double in the fourth inning extending the lead to 4-1.
The Bears made things interesting in the fifth inning. They scored two runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Cole.
Hector Torres puts the game out of reach with a 2-run homer in the sixth inning.
Michael Buck led Southwest Mississippi with two hits in four at-bats.
Brendon Baker took the loss for the Bears. He allowed eight hits and six runs over six innings, striking out five.
Eduardo Munoz led the Coahoma to victory on the pitcher's mound. He went nine innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one.
Coahoma racked up nine hits. Rodriguez and Torres all managed multiple hits. Rodriguez went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Tigers in hits.
In the second game, Coahoma stole the lead in extra innings and defeated Southwest Mississippi 10-5.
Southwest got things moving in the first inning 1-0. Cole steps up again with an RBI single.
The Tigers score five runs in two innings to take a 5-1 lead.
Matthew Newcomb came through with a 2-RBI single. Zac Gilder got an RBI single. Rodriguez hits a huge 2-run homer.
The Bears came back with four runs in the sixth inning tying the game 5-5. Cole capped his big day with a 2-run homer. Tyler White stepped up with an RBI single.
The game went to extra innings. The Tigers broke through in the ninth inning scoring five runs. Rodriguez and
Colton Norris had a pair of RBI singles.
Cole went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Southwest Mississippi in hits.
Daren Smith toed the rubber for Southwest Mississippi. He allowed seven hits and five runs over four and a third innings, striking out five. Jarid Sturgeon, Gage Kiser, Ethan Campo, and Paco Bello each entered the game as a relief, throwing three innings, two-thirds of an inning, two-thirds of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.
Rafael De Leon was credited with the victory for Coahoma. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out one and walking one.
Coahoma collected 13 hits. Rodriguez, Johnson, Gilder, and Newcomb all managed multiple hits. Rodriguez led the Tigers with three hits in five at-bats.
Coahoma goes to (21-17, 9-11 MACJC) on the season. They will continue MACJC Conference play against Holmes Community College. The game is set for 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex. It will be part of a doubleheader followed by game two at 3 p.m.
