Tigers Rally to Sweep Lions

Box Score CLARKSDALE- East Mississippi rolled into Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex with hopes of slowing CCC's recent momentum Tuesday afternoon. Both teams had similar 4-8 records entering the matchup, but the Tigers would scratch and claw their way to a 9-2 and 9-8 victory.

In the 1st game, Coahoma grabbed an early lead. The Tigers scored on a 2-RBI single by Marquellus Edgeston in the first inning. In the second, the Tigers made big plays; securing an RBI single by Joe Gee, two walks by both Edgeston and Kyler Johnson, and a wild pitch during Deonteau Rieves' at-bat.

Coahoma put the game away in the eighth inning; cutting any hope East Mississippi had of rallying. Zac Gilder came through with a 2-RBI double, followed by Edgeston cleaning up with an RBI double for Coahoma.

In the 2nd game, Coahoma defeated East Mississippi 9-8, thanks to a walk-off single in the latter part of the game. The Tigers were down 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Joe Gee hit a game-winning 2-RBI single.

"Last week Northwest intentionally walked me, and I really wanted a chance to walk off. I had my chance this week, and I wanted to do it," said Gee. "This team is the best fighting team I ever played with. They do not quit, and we fight in every inning."

East Mississippi (11-17, 4-10 MACJC) scored four runs in the second inning taking a 5-0 lead. Their offensive firepower was led by Luke Miller, Anthony Hickman, and William Garriga, whom each had RBIs in the inning.

The Lions battled back in the fifth inning and took a 7-5 lead. Luke Miller delivered a 2-RBI double for EMCC.

A botches pickoff attempt by the Lions resulted in Matt Newcomb scoring for the Tigers; tying the game 7-7.

Both teams were offensively strong at the plate as Coahoma collected nine hits and East Mississippi 13 in the high-scoring affair.
