Tigers Get First MACJC Victory Against Eagles

Box Score MERIDIAN- Coahoma Community College faced another tough road trip at Meridian Community College on Wednesday Afternoon. The Tigers got their first MACJC victory by splitting the doubleheader (10-8 and 9-4).

In the 1st game, Coahoma had a great start but an abrupt finish. Despite a 5-run deficit in the seventh inning, the Tigers almost recovered, but ultimately fell 10-8 to Meridian.

Coahoma fired up the offense in the first inning. An early error scored one run to give Coahoma a 1-0 lead.

Coahoma scored three more runs in the top of the fourth. Hector Torres got a 3 RBI triple extending the lead to 5-0. Meridian Community College answered when Davis Bradshaw hit a solo homer, Keegan Westbrook's RBI single, and Hunter Stanley's sacrifice fly scored one run cutting the lead to 5-3.

Meridian (14-4, 3-1 MACJC) pulled away for good with four runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth CJ Hughes got a 2 RBI single and Westbrook hits a 2-run homer to take the lead 7-5.

The Eagles scored three more runs to extend the lead to 10-5.

Coahoma scored three runs in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Christopher Pittman and a 2 RBI double by Zac Gilder.

Jackson Bridges toed the rubber for Meridian. He surrendered eight runs on 11 hits over nine innings, striking out 11.

Meridian Community College racked up 13 hits on the day including two home runs. Westbrook, Bradshaw, Hughes, and Stanley each collected multiple hits.

Rafael De Leon toed the rubber for Coahoma. He lasted six innings, allowing ten hits and nine runs while striking out four. Justin Fisher threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Coahoma scattered 11 hits in the game. Kyler Johnson, Marquellus Edgeston, and Alexis Rodriguez all managed multiple hits. Rodriguez, Edgeston, and Johnson each collected two hits to lead the Tigers.

In the 2nd game, Coahoma weathered a push by Meridian in the sixth inning. They coughed up four runs, but still held on to 9-4 victory.

In the first inning, the Tigers got their offense started with an RBI single from Edgeston. CCC notched three more runs in the fourth inning. Hector Torres and Alexis Rodriguez all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Coahoma had a commanding 9-0 lead.

The Eagles tried to get back in the game; scoring four runs in the sixth inning. Hughes got a 3 RBI single and Houston Parker got an RBI Single.

Luke Wallner took the loss for Meridian. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and striking out seven.

Wyatt Bailey took the win for Coahoma. He surrendered four runs on four hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six. Eduardo Munoz threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Coahoma totaled nine hits in the game. Edgeston, Deonteau Rieves, and Joe Gee, each managed multiple hits. Edgeston, Gee, and Rieves all had two hits to lead the Tigers.

"When you get a win on the road then you're doing something right," said Coahoma Head Coach Lee Hodge. "We take advantage of playing hard. We are playing teams in the top 20. You have to play flawless baseball and you have to battle."

Coahoma goes to (13-9, 1-3 MACJC) on the season.
