Tigers Get Big Sweep On The Road

MEMPHIS- Coahoma Community College had to make adjustments to their season schedule due to inclement weather; scheduling a tough road game against Rhodes College on Monday Afternoon. The Tigers rose to the challenge and swept the Lynx (7-4,6-3) at Stauffer Field.

In game one, Coahoma exploded with 14 hits resulting in a 7-4 victory. The Tigers got on the scoreboard first 2-0 in the 3rd inning. Hector Torres stepped up with an RBI double, with Marquellus Edgeston adding on an RBI single. 

In the bottom of the third inning, Rhodes College tied things up 2-2 when Zac Lange hit a two-run homer.

Coahoma pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. Christopher Pittman singled scoring two runs, and Zac Gilder doubled scoring two runs.

Eduardo Munoz was on the mound for the Tigers. He allowed four hits and two runs over four and a third innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Patrick Morrison toed the rubber for Rhodes College. He allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Cameron Tinker, Matt Dale, Tom Coggins, and Andy Shreves each entered the game as relief, throwing two innings, one inning, one inning, and one inning respectively.

Rhodes College scattered seven hits in the game. Jon Michael Lauck and Lange each collected multiple hits for Rhodes College.

Deonteau Rieves, Gilder, Marquellus Edgeston, Pittman, and Colton Norris each managed multiple hits for Coahoma. Norris, Pittman, Edgeston, Gilder, and Rieves each collected two hits to lead the Tigers.

In game two, Coahoma had good pitching and made smart plays in a 6-3 victory. Rafael De Leon led things off on the mound for Coahoma. He lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out 11 and walking zero.

In the second inning, the Tigers got their offense started. Trey Mannion's wild pitch allowed two runs to score for Coahoma.

Edgeston continues his hitting spree with an RBI double extending the lead 3-0. Rhodes got back in the game when Jacob Telli got an RBI single cutting the lead to 4-2. Then John Ganucheau grounds into a double play which scores a run cutting the lead to 4-3.

The Tigers pulled away when N Mirochnick threw a wild pitch scoring Joe Gee. Then Edgeston adds on to his big day with an RBI single.

Jack Mercer was on the mound for Rhodes College. He allowed two hits and zero runs in one inning, walking zero. Mannion, John Ganucheau, John Medich, and Nathan Mirochnick each entered the game as relief, throwing two innings, two innings, one inning, and one inning respectively.

Jacob Telli led Rhodes College with three hits in three at-bats.

Edgeston led Coahoma going 3-for-4 at the plate and 2 RBIs.

Coahoma goes to 5-1 on the season. They will continue their non-conference schedule against  North Arkansas College. The games are set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, and Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex. It will be part of a doubleheader followed by game two at 3 p.m.
