Box Score 2 CLARKSDALE - Tiger Baseball traveled to Itawamba Tuesday looking to rebound from a weekend sweep at Hinds. The team was able to overcome a tough 12-2 loss in Game 1 to upend the Indians 8-1 in Game 2. Dustin Allen notched his 6th win of the year in the 7-inning second-game victory.
Kris Peet got the ball for the Tigers in Game 1 and struggled early. The righty from Olive Branch surrendered 6 runs over 2 innings of work. The Indian offense tagged him for 3 runs in the 1st, highlighted by a 2-RBI double by Drake Rowton. Tyreque Reed would hit the first of his 2 HRs in the game in the 2nd to expand the lead.
Itawamba got a very strong performance on the hill by Blake Bennett, who struck out 3 and scattered 7 hits over 8 innings in earning the W.Â
Hayden Tapper and Zach Morris scored the Tigers' only two runs of the game, coming in on RBI groundouts by Wesley Dew and Tanner White.
Game 2 was a different story. Allen, one of the conference's top pitchers, cowed the potent Itawamba offense with a virtuoso performance. The righty fired all 7 innings, striking out 5 and keeping ICC to just 5 hits and an unearned run. It was the 7th time he has pitched at least 6 innings in a start this season.
Latalo Newson and Adam Cook led the Tiger attack in support of Allen. Newson finished with 2 hits, including a double, and 3 RBI, and Cook launched his 4th HR of the season to put an exclamation point on a key 5-run 5th inning. He finished 2-for-4.
The Tigers, who fell by finals of 10-6 and 4-1 at Hinds Saturday before rebounding last night with the win in Fulton, stand at 11-22-1 overall and 5-11 in MACJC play. The split moved Itawamba to 16-14 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
CCC will enjoy a week off before taking on Holmes at home April 13. First pitch is slated for noon.
