Box Score 2 MOORHEAD - CCC Baseball suffered a sweep at Delta Tuesday, falling by finals of 10-9 in 10 innings and 8-5 in 5 innings.
Leo Castro started Game 1 for the squad. The lefty from Cartagena, Colombia would go 4 innings without surrendering an earned run. His offense got hot early, using 2-RBI base hits from Hayden Tapper and Bailey Lott to build a 5-1 lead in the top of the 3rd.
Tapper would add a 2-run homer in the 4th, and Braxton Wall would add a 2-run blast of his own in the 7th to put CCC up 9-3 heading to the penultimate inning.
There though, Delta came to life, taking advantage of early CCC errors to piece together a 5-run 8th punctuated by a 3-run homerun by Nathan Pilutti to tie the game.
CCC seemed to get the run back in the top of the 9th, when Adam Cook appeared to tag and score on a sacrifice fly by Wall. A just-in-case throw to third ended the inning on a double-play though, as the umpire determined Cook had left early.
Delta would win it in the 10th. Once again, Pilutti was the hero. He doubled off the right-center field wall to score Bryan Lane from 1st base. His walkoff hit came off Tapper, who had also surrendered his home run in the 8th after entering in relief of Jacob Feduccia.
In Game 2, CCC once again built an early advantage. A 2-RBI triple by Zach Morris highlighted a 5-run 2nd inning that once again gave the team a 5-1 advantage.
But once again it would not hold, as Delta scored 5 times off CCC starter Latalo Newson in the in the bottom of the 4th, opening up an 8-5 lead.
CCC would score 3 runs in the top of the 6th to tie the game, with Tapper driving in Morris to make it 8-8. Umpires determined that the game could not be continued though due to low visibility and impending darkness. They called the game, and the official score reverted to the last full inning completed: 8-5 Delta.
