Baseball Splits With Co-Lin After Falling To Holmes

Allen gets 7th victory of the season Sunday

Box Score CLARKSDALE - CCC Baseball bounced back from a sweep by Holmes Wednesday by splitting with Co-Lin Sunday, upending the Wolfpack 6-3 in Game 2 for their 6th conference victory of the year.

The squad fell to Holmes on April 13th by finals of 6-4 and 5-2. Lowell Haney enjoyed an impeccable doubleheader against the Bulldogs, going 7 for 9 at the plate. But the efforts of the speedy outfielder were not enough to keep Holmes from rising to 9 wins in MACJC play.

The team looked to rebound Sunday against the Wolfpack of Copiah-Lincoln. The team jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in Game 1, but a 3-run 3rd and a 1-run 4th against CCC starter Kris Peet would briefly put the Wolfpack in control.

They carried a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 4th, when CCC got RBIs from Bailey Lott and Wesley Dew to trim the lead to 1. The Tigers would erase it completely in the 5th on a key error by Co-Lin 3B Justin Oliver that allowed Lowell Haney to score. An RBI single by Adam Cook would then give CCC its first lead since the 3rd frame.

CCC appeared poised to hang on for the victory, but, pitching in relief, Dustin Allen was tagged for a 2-RBI double by Co-Lin LF Jeremy Moore with 2 outs in the 8th that put the visitors on top 6-5. They would add 2 more in the 9th to earn their 4th conference victory.

Allen would quickly bounce back though. Starting Game 2, the Holly Springs native fired a complete game, allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 7 over 7 innings to get his 7th victory of the season.

His offense would give him plenty of support. An RBI double by Latalo Newson in the 1st gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead, and Cook would extend the margin to 2 with a sac fly RBI of his own. A 2-run 3rd that featured RBI by Hayden Tapper and Tanner White, and then single tallies in the 4th and 5th would be all the support that Allen, a Blue Mountain College commit, would need.

CCC (12-25-1, 6-14 MACJC) travel to MS Delta tomorrow for a rivalry doubleheader starting at 1 pm. With 8 games remaining, the team stands 3 games out of the conference's final playoff spot.

A live stream of tomorrow's games at Delta will be available on coahomasports.com/watch and mixlr.com/ZSports.
