Box Score CLARKSDALE - CCC Baseball made it 6 wins in a row Wednesday, sweeping Northeast by finals of 6-5 and 4-2. Sophomore righty Garrett Short earned a win and a save in helping the team to wins in its first 2 MACJC matchups.
Kris Peet started Game 1 for the Tigers and cruised through the first 4 innings, allowing just 1 hit. His offense built him a lead against Northeast starter Skyler Defer, with Tanner White bringing home Lowell Haney on an RBI single in the 1st. The squad would add 2 more on RBI base hits in the 3rd by Braxton Wall and Bailey Lott.
Northeast would come to life in the 5th and 6th though, scoring once in the 5th on a Tiger error and then tagging Peet for 4 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks and another Tiger error in the 6th. Short entered for Peet in that inning and stranded the bases loaded to keep the game at 5-3 Northeast.
Trailing 5-4 headed to the bottom of the 7th, the Diamond Tigers pressed down on the gas, using an RBI double by White and another RBI base hit by Lott to reclaim the lead. Lott finished 3 for 4 with 2 RBI in one of his finest offensive performances of the young season.
Short would hold down the Northeast offense over the next 2 innings to earn his second win of the year. He left 6 on base, including 4 in scoring position, in a 3.1 inning, 3-hit, 0-run relief performance. Facing two on with just one out in the 9th and final frame, Short induced the first double play of the afternoon to ice the victory.
Dustin Allen took the hill in Game 2 and continued his strong season by spinning 6 innings of 4-hit, 2-run ball. His offense built him an early lead on an error by Northeast third baseman Eli Murphree and a gutsy two-out bunt by Landon Fullilove that brought home Zach Morris.
The Tiger bats would take advantage of 3 walks in the 5th to turn a 1-run lead into a 3-run lead, courtesy of a fielder's choice hit into by Braxton Wall that plated Fullilove and Adam Cook. Short would enter for Allen in the 7th and close the door, earning his 2nd save in the last 8 days.
The Tigers (8-11, 2-0 MACJC) will take on Pearl River Friday at home. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
