Box Score 2 CLARKSDALE—The Baseball Tigers notched another MACJC win Sunday, defeating the Southwest MS CC Bears 6-5 Sunday afternoon in Clarksdale. The victory was the 4th in conference play for the Tigers in 2015.
Garrett Short earned his 2nd win of the season by once again pitching into the 7th inning, a feat he has now accomplished 4 times this season. The Southaven righthander scattered 5 runs over those 7 innings, fanning 5 and causing the Bears to strand 6 men on the basepaths during his 6.2 innings.
Adam McPhail notched his first save of the season by escaping a 2-on, 2-out jam after entering the game in place of Short in the 7th. He would surrender 2 hits and 0 runs over the final 2 frames to close out the contest.
Adam Cook was a star offensively for the Tigers. The freshman DH knocked in 3 runs, including 2 in the 5th to give the Tigers a lead that they would not relinquish. Hudson Ross notched 2 hits, including a double, and scored twice. Zach Morris also enjoyed a multi-hit game for CCC.
Dustin Allen got the ball for the Tigers in Game 2. He lasted into the 5th inning, surrendering 4 runs, but did not get the same support from his offense that Short enjoyed. The Tigers managed 7 hits, but stranded 7 as well vs. 3 SMCC hurlers in a 4-1 loss.
Braxton Wall drove in the only CCC run of the game, singling to left to bring in TJ Knowles in the 4th. It was Wall's 9th RBI and Knowles' team-leading 18th run scored this season.
The Tigers now stand at 5-31 on the year and 4-18 in conference play. Their next MACJC opponent is Meridian CC, who is set to come to Clarksdale for a doubleheader on April 22nd. First pitch in the twinbill will be thrown at 12 pm.
