Box Score 2 CLARKSDALE—Tiger baseball dropped a pair to Lincoln Trail College Saturday afternoon, falling by finals of 6-1 and 7-2. The doubleheader was played as a makeup for Monday's scheduled games at the Flag City Classic, which are expected to be cancelled by an impending storm.
Garrett Short made his 2nd start of the season for the Tigers. The Southaven native surrendered 4 runs, though just 2 earned, while working into the 5th. The righty scattered 5 hits while striking out 4. He was outdueled by LTC starter Tasker Strobel, who kept the Tigers flummoxed at the plate on his way to spinning a 6.2 IP, 4-hit, 1-run gem.
CF
Zach Morris scored the tally for the Tigers, and
John Pafford reached base twice in 3 at-bats. CCC committed 3 errors in the field.
In Game 2, it was Alex VanDeVusse keeping the Coahoma bats at bay. The Statesman hurler held the Tigers down until the fourth when LF
TJ Knowles knocked in C
Hudson Ross, who had led off the inning with a double.
But by that time, Lincoln Trail had already built a 4-run lead by knocking around 2 Tiger pitchers to open the game. A succession of hurlers could not slow down the Statesmen, who broke through again in the 5th and twice in the 6th to seal the win. 7 of the 9 spots in the LTC lineup reached base at least twice in the team's 2nd win of the afternoon and the season.
C
Hudson Ross and RF
Adam Cook each had 2 hits for the Tigers. Ross finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Cook drove in a late run in the 6th with a mammoth triple that brought home Knowles.
CCC, who fell to Southwest TN CC and Ellsworth (IA) CC Thursday in Milligton, dropped to 0-6 on the season. They now prepare for a road test vs. Southwest MS CC on February 18th. First pitch in the doubleheader will be thrown in Summit at 2 pm.
