Game 1
Itawamba Community College defeated Coahoma CC Tigers 7-1 on Tuesday in Clarksdale, MS thanks partly to five runs in the eighth inning. Itawamba Community College got on the board in the second inning after Ty Wicker grounded out, scoring one run. Bo Howell grounded out, which helped Coahoma CC Tigers tie the game at one in the bottom of the sixth. Itawamba Community College flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 6-1 lead. The most significant blow in the inning was a single by Jaxin Settlemires that drove in three. Andrew Paysinger led things off on the mound for Coahoma CC Tigers. They allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out two and walking one. Dixon Webb began the game for Itawamba Community College. They surrendered six hits and one run (zero earned) over eight innings, striking out six and walking two. Jake Smith led Coahoma CC Tigers with two hits in four at-bats. Coahoma CC Tigers turned one double play in the game. Itawamba Community College amassed ten hits in the game. Bo Rock and Brock Ware each collected two hits for Itawamba Community College. Wicker and Ware each drove in two runs for Itawamba Community College. Itawamba Community College turned one double play in the game.
Game 2
Both teams were strong on the mound on Tuesday, but Itawamba Community College was stronger at the plate in their 3-2 victory over Coahoma CC Tigers. Daniel Ruiz started the game for Coahoma CC Tigers and recorded 18 outs. Coahoma CC Tigers was right in it until Itawamba Community College walked in the seventh inning. Coahoma CC Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Patrick Mangels tripled and Bo Howell singled, each scoring one run. Itawamba Community College took the lead in the top of the seventh inning after Jaxin Settlemires walked, and Jerrett Morris walked, each scoring one run. Ruiz led things off on the hill for Coahoma CC Tigers. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out four and walking four. Matt Bourdon opened the game for Itawamba Community College. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking three. Mangels and Howell were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Coahoma CC Tigers. Mangels, Howell, and Jake Smith each collected one hit for Coahoma CC Tigers. Coahoma CC Tigers turned one double play in the game.
Next, CCC travels to Jones County on March 23rd to take on the Jones County Bobcats.
