The CCC baseball team played in a round robin with Mississippi Delta and Holmes on Wednesday, March 1, in Goodman, MS. Coahoma's opening game was against MDCC with the second matchup against HCC.
In the first game of the day, the score was tied 1-1 in the middle of the second inning. In the bottom of the inning, CCC's
Anthony Newson homered on the first at bat. Later in the side, an RBI double by
Christo Peeks scored
Logan Muhleisen and
Jack Cartwright.
Mississippi Delta scored three runs in the top of the third inning, but Coahoma countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. CCC led 6-4 after three innings of play.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Trojans tallied a total of 13 runs throughout the remainder of the game to win 17-6 in seven innings.
In the second matchup, which was against Holmes, Coahoma scored three runs in the top of the first inning.
The first two runs were scored when Peeks tallied an RBI double that sored Muhleisen and
Cade Gadman. On the ensuing at bat, an RBI ground out by
Parker Harris allowed Peeks to score. Peeks had five hits and four RBIs in eight at bats on the day.
Coahoma tallied two runs in the sixth inning, but Holmes won the game 6-5 in seven innings. The third matchup of the round robin was won 5-3 in seven innings by Mississippi Delta over Holmes.
CCC is now 3-9 (0-0 MACCC) this season; MDCC is 4-9-1 (0-0 MACCC); Holmes is 3-9 (0-0 MACCC).
Next up for Coahoma is a round robin with Northeast Mississippi and East Central on Tuesday, March 7, in Booneville, MS.
