CCC sweeps Central Baptist College (JV) in doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The CCC baseball team won Thursday's two-game series against the Central Baptist College JV team on Thursday, March 17. The doubleheader was played at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven, Mississippi, with Coahoma being listed as the home team.

The Tigers won the opening game 16-15 in eight innings as Coahoma tallied 13 hits and 12 RBIs. CCC's Anyelo Sanchez, Bryland Skinner, Donovan Shead, Erick Lopez, Josiah Rivera, and Zales Lewis each recorded two hits. Skinner led the Tigers in runs scored with four; Lopez, Shead, and Chase Jones each tallied two. Lewis recorded a team-leading four RBIs.

Coahoma scored at least three runs in three innings to go along with only having one inning without a run. CCC used five pitchers throughout the matchup. Tanner Grimes was Coahoma's starting pitcher. Keshun Patterson was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts and no runs allowed, while facing eight batters. Lopez tallied nine putouts as CCC's catcher.

In the second game, the Tigers scored one run in the first inning and six runs in the second inning. Coahoma held a 7-0 lead going into the third inning. CCC led by as many as eight runs, and won the game 10-4. Coahoma recorded 13 hits and 10 RBIs. Lewis led the Tigers in hits with three. Rivera tallied two hits to go along with a team-leading three runs.

Trace Thelwell was the winning pitcher. The freshman from Coral Springs, Florida, allowed three hits and one earned run throughout six innings. Thelwell recorded eight strikeouts.

Coahoma is now 4-8 (0-4 MACCC) this season. The Tigers' next doubleheader is scheduled to be at Southwest Mississippi on Saturday, March 19.
