The expectations and hype regarding Thursday night's Coahoma Community College football game is very high. Coahoma football fans are thrilled with the Tigers' impressive start to the season and the current state of the program under head coach
Travis Macon.
Despite going a combined 3-24 (1-17 North) in the three seasons prior to Macon's arrival, CCC is an impressive 7-3 (6-2 North) during Macon's tenure. With the recent success, "The New Coahoma" is a phrase that the Tigers have embraced.
A milestone achievement for the program occurred earlier this week when CCC made the NJCAA DI Football Poll. The accomplishment was
recognized by the MACCC.
This week, Coahoma faces Northwest Mississippi Community College 3-2 (2-1 North) in a pivotal game with significant playoff implications for each team. Without question, the matchup against NWCC is one of the most anticipated CCC football games ever.
The official theme for Thursday's game at James E. Miller Stadium is a "Gray Out" as fans are asked to wear gray. Breast Cancer Awareness month will also receive recognition at the game as the first 100 fans will receive a pink support bracelet.
Macon is expecting a "crazy" atmosphere at the game, and is encouraging fans to attend the matchup. "It's gonna be an exciting game," Macon said. "Our guys really need your support. We need everybody in gray. We need everybody to come and cheer those guys on; help us bring home this W."
Prior to Coahoma, Macon was a coach at Northwest, which makes this game a special one for him since he has a close bond with the NWCC coaches.
"Me and those guys; we won a lot of games together; we won some championships together," Macon said. "They're great men; great coaches."
When asked about what the message to his team has been this week, Macon said, "Don't give up the big play; play hard; play fast; win the game."
The game is slated for Thursday, Oct. 7, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at James E. Miller Stadium one hour prior to kickoff. CCC strongly encourages fans of each school to arrive at the stadium well before the game's scheduled start time.
Attendees are asked to follow COVID-19 protocols. Masks are required to be worn at all times with the exception of eating and drinking. The matchup will also broadcast live at
www.coahomasports.com/watch and on the college's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
