The Coahoma Community College football team is now 4-1 (3-0 North) this season. The Tigers won at Holmes Community College 41-10 on Thursday night. The Bulldogs are now 0-5 (0-3 North.)

"I thought that the kids played hard; we came out with a lot of energy," CCC head coach Travis Macon said. "The kids believe in what we're doing. I thank our fans; we had a really good crowd tonight. So, I think the program is headed in the right direction."

Coahoma scored on the final play of the opening quarter when running back KeAundre McCollough scored on a 21-yard rushing touchdown. CCC led 6-0 after the opening quarter.

The score became 14-0 Coahoma after a 29-yard TD pass from quarterback Mekhi Norris to receiver Wayne Toussant.

HCC fumbled on the ensuing kickoff and CCC's Aikee Matthews recovered the football at midfield. The Tigers took a three-score lead when Jakobi Jackson powered his way into the end zone on a one-yard touchdown run to give Coahoma a 20-0 lead.

After a touchdown for the Bulldogs, CCC answered with a five-yard TD pass from Norris to Toussant. At halftime, the Tigers led 26-7.

Coahoma scored the opening points of the third quarter when kicker William Payne converted on a field goal attempt that extended the Tigers' lead. Going into the fourth quarter, Coahoma led 29-7.

CCC added to its lead when a screen pass from quarterback Kennique Bonner-Steward to running back Queston "QJ" Skipper resulted in a 39-yard touchdown. Coahoma led 35-7. A field goal for HCC made the score 35-10 in favor of the Tigers.

The Coahoma defense, which has played excellent football this season, capped off the game with a 68-yard fumble return for a TD. The fumble was forced by defensive linemen Zelion Chestnut and returned for the score by defensive back Jacobeyon Lane. "I always tell the guys; don't fall on the ball; scoop and score," Macon said. "If you get a pick; let's try to get it to the end zone."

The CCC offense had its largest output of the season, and continues to show improvement. "I was very proud of them," Macon said. "I think they're gaining confidence each week. So, it was good for them to see that if they keep working hard, good things happen for them."

The Tigers' next game is on Thursday, Oct. 7, at James E. Miller Stadium against Northwest Mississippi Community College. The matchup is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., and will broadcast live on www.coahomasports.com/watch and the college's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
