Box Score 2 MOORHEAD- The men's basketball team of Coahoma Community College had an opportunity to go 2-0 at the Mississippi Delta Thanksgiving Shootout. Baton Rouge Community College strategized preventing Coahoma's chances. Both teams played a tight game, but a big second half run helped BRCC to an 86-77 victory on Tuesday afternoon at the J. T. Hall Coliseum.
The Mighty Tigers went on a 14-0 run in the second half to take a 67-57 lead with nine minutes remaining.
Cornelius Holly made a 3-pointer plus a foul and made the 4-point play.
Tiras Bolden fired up the fans with a putback dunk.
BRCC resurged outscoring Coahoma 29-10 to secure the victory. Prince Campbell and Spencer Mays combined for 21 points in the second half.
Coahoma went on a prolonged scoring slump that lasted six minutes. They recovered from the slump with 1:50 to go in the game.
Holly and
Jordan O'Neal took charge of the first half for the Tigers. They combined for 25 points, but the Bears dominated in the paint. Kaevon Jones and Jamal Hayward also combined for 25 points. The game was then tied 45-45 at the half.
BRCC had four players to score in double figures. Jones led the Bears with 23 points, including three 3-pointers. Mays scored 19 points, including 13 points made by Ronald Pugh in the second half. Campbell collected 11 points, including 10 points in the second half.
Three standout Mighty Tigers ended the matchup in double figures. Holly led the Tigers with 23 points, seven assists, and two steals. O'Neal scored 20 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Bolden left the court with 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Coahoma goes to 3-3 on the season.
Coahoma's Lady Tigers engaged in a hard-fought battle against East Central Community College on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors survived in a 56-53 victory in the East Central Classic at the Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers goes to 3-2 on the season.
The Tigers will be back in action against Arkansas Baptist College on Monday, December 2, 2019, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
