Box Score CLARKSDALE- Coahoma, and Itawamba had a chance to get on the winning track. Both teams faced losing streaks and were looking to get back in the MACJC North race. Coahoma had one of their biggest offensive outputs of the season. The effort wasn't enough as the Itawamba outscored and outplayed the Tigers in a 49-28 victory on Thursday night at James E. Miller Stadium.
Itawamba got on the scoreboard first 7-0 on a five-yard touchdown by Clark Mills. Coahoma bounced back 7-6 when
Myron Norfleet connected with
Stefan Harmon for a 16-yard touchdown.
Coahoma took a 14-7 lead on a one-yard touchdown by Norfleet. The Indians answered when De'Sean Dinkins scored a two-yard touchdown tying the game 14-14.
Itawamba took charge and never looked back. Mills connected with Jamel Thomas for a 60-yard touchdown to take a 21-14 lead. Hiram Wadlington added on to the lead 28-14 with a 48-yard touchdown.
Then Dinkins scored a one-yard touchdown to give the Indians a commanding 35-14 lead.
The Tigers kept on fighting despite the deficit. Norfleet connected to
Donnie Corley for a 13-yard touchdown cutting the lead to 35-20.
Itawamba answered when Mills connected to Cedric Bradford for a 75-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 42-20.
Legend Moore stepped in at quarterback and connected with Corley for a 13-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 42-28.
The Indians put the game out of reach on a 52-yard touchdown by Qua Tucker.
Itawamba had 471 yards of total offense including 257 passing yards and 214 rushing yards. Mills led the Indians with 10 of 14 passes for 257 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Wadlington finished with nine carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. Thomas had three catches for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Coahoma had 503 yards of total offense including 349 passing yards and 154 rushing yards. Norfleet led the Tigers with 25 of 48 passes for 340 yards, 11 carries for 60 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Corley finished with 10 catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Harmon had eight catches for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Itawamba goes to 2-2 (1-1 MACJC North) on the season. They will host Northeast Mississippi next Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.
Coahoma goes to 0-4 (0-2 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue the MACJC North Division play against Mississippi Delta next Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.
