Coahoma Community College had the opportunity to earn a signature win against a top 20 team as 17th ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College rolled into Clarksdale, MS for Coahoma's home opener.
Coahoma made big mistakes and had missed opportunities in a 34-6 defeat Thursday night at the James E. Miller Stadium.
Tigers' offensive committed four turnovers including four interceptions by Quarterback
Trey Mitchell. They were 1 of 5 in the red zone (Co-Lin 20 yard line).
Tigers' defense gave up 488 yards total offense and a lot of missed tackles. Coahoma committed 12 penalties for 72 yards.
"We made too many mistakes against a team that's so talented," said Coahoma Head Coach Steve Miller.
Co-Lin made Coahoma pay for those mistakes. They struck first with a 14-0 lead.
Woody Barrett then connected to Kobe Gates for two touchdowns (4 and 13 yards). Rico Owens scored a 2-yard touchdown to extend the lead 21-0. Griffin Sublitt knocked down two field goals (31 and 21 yards) giving Co-Lin a commanding 27-0 lead.
Coahoma finally got on the scoreboard. Mitchell scored a one-yard touchdown cutting the lead to 27-6.
Owens put the game away with a one-yard touchdown. He finished with 14 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns.
Barrett led Co-Lin with 16 of 27 passes for 169 yards, 10 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Deion Dampier had 19 carries for 91 yards. Nero Nelson had four catches for 51 yards. Gates had three catches for 26 yards and two touchdowns.

Chris Claybrooks had seven catches for 133 yards.
Coach Miller knows the game was a learning curve for Coahoma.
"When you get in these certain situations you have to make plays," said Miller. "Once they see the mistakes, they will get back to reality and play Coahoma football."
Coahoma will have an opportunity to bounce back against Jones County Junior College at 7 p.m. next Thursday, Sept. 14, at James E. Miller Stadium.
