Matt Wolfenbarger To Join Tiger Baseball Staff For 2015-2016

Former Delta Academy head coach will supervise CCC pitching staff

Coahoma Community College is happy to announce that Matthew Wolfenbarger will join the Tiger baseball staff as pitching coach for the 2015-16 season.

"I love the college atmosphere, I love the college game, especially junior college because I played it and I know how it works," Wolfenbarger enthused. "I'm very, very excited to get that opportunity."

Wolfenbarger, a native of Northport, AL, was a star high school right-hander in Tuscaloosa who signed with Shelton State CC in 2007. Wolfenbarger helped Shelton to state and regional championships in 2008 and 2009 and briefly played at the University of Alabama before transitioning to a coaching career. He has spent the past 3 seasons as head coach at Delta Academy in Marks, helping the team to 35 wins in his tenure. Delta is where he met CCC bench coach Tommy Foster, who himself served on the Delta Staff in 2013 and 2014.

"[Foster] and I clicked right off the bat," Wolfenbarger said of his coaching colleague. "He's a very, very good guy and very knowledgeable in the game as well… I owe a lot to him for helping make this transition happen and for the successful seasons I had at Delta."

Wolfenbarger and Foster will reunite to help the Tigers continue to improve under Head Coach Lee Hodge and Assistant Coach Matt Killebrew. Wolfenbarger has already gotten to work, designing and implementing an offseason workout plan that he hopes will help the staff improve its conditioning and velocity.

"I really like what Coach Hodge is doing here," Wolfenbarger said. "He's really trying to turn the program around. That's definitely something I want to be a part of."

The Tiger baseball program will return for 6 tune-up games this fall and open its spring schedule next February.
