Coahoma football opens MACCC North Division play on the road at Holmes

CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College football program travels to face Holmes Community College on Thursday, Sept. 17, in Goodman, Mississippi, marking a critical MACCC North Division opener as both teams seek their first victory.

After navigating a challenging early-season stretch against three consecutive South Division opponents, this week presents a clean slate for the Tigers in divisional standings. Coahoma (0-3) enters the contest aiming to bounce back after a narrow 24-19 road loss to East Central Community College last week.

The Tigers produced 319 yards of total offense during the match up, driven by quarterback Jacob Clopton. Clopton completed 17 of 30 passes for 179 yards and added 49 rushing yards on 14 carries. Running back Issac Day led the ground game with 58 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 17 attempts. Out wide, Jaden Moses was a primary target, hauling in seven receptions for 126 yards.

The Coahoma defense continues to establish a physical identity, applying heavy pressure against East Central and securing three total sacks and seven tackles for loss. Defensive lineman Josh Gale led the pass rush with two sacks and two tackles for loss. Defensive backs Ardavius Harris and Arlanders Stovall anchored the group in total stops, recording five tackles each.

Holmes Community College (0-3) is also hungry for a divisional victory following a 21-7 defeat to Hinds Community College. The Bulldogs recorded 277 total offensive yards in their last outing, relying heavily on the arm of quarterback George Wilcox. Wilcox threw for 186 yards and one touchdown, connecting frequently with receiver JerKel Ivy, who finished the game with 91 yards and a score on five catches. On defense, Holmes is led by defensive back Jerean Reed, who tallied 11 total tackles and two sacks against Hinds.
