CCC Lady Tigers fall in Final Game of the Season against MCC Lady Eagles

Coahoma Softball shows growth during Tough season

CLARKSDALE, Miss. –– The Lady Tigers soft ball team fell to the Lady Eagle of Meridian Community College in the their last season game on April 24, 2026.

The Coahoma Lady Tigers battled throughout the doubleheader against Meridian but came up short in both contests, falling 8-0 in Game One and 3-2 in a tightly contested Game Two.

In the opener, Coahoma's pitching effort was strong enough to keep the game within reach early, but defensive miscues and missed opportunities at the plate proved costly. The Lady Tigers committed five errors and struggled to string together hits, leaving multiple runners on base.

Meridian wasted no time setting the tone, scoring three runs in the first inning. Presley Black sparked the offense with a triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly, while Allie Loftin added an RBI single and Charlee Smith drove in another run with a double.

The Eagles extended their lead in the second inning when Hannah Buckley stole home to make it 4-0. Meridian continued to apply pressure in the third, adding three more runs behind an RBI single from Isabella White and a two-RBI single from Alex Layfield to push the lead to 7-0. Raegan King capped the scoring with an RBI double in the fourth.

In the circle, Hannah Capello was dominant for Meridian, tossing a complete-game shutout with five strikeouts.

Game Two told a different story, as Coahoma tightened up defensively and delivered a much more complete performance. The Lady Tigers played clean in the field with no errors and received another strong outing in the circle.

Meridian struck first in the second inning when Buckley used a bunt single to bring in the game's opening run. The Eagles added to their lead in the fourth on a solo home run by King, making it 2-0.

Coahoma responded late with a surge of momentum. In the sixth inning, Lazion Riley reached base and was moved into scoring position on a bunt by Laney Wallace. Zakathryn Cameron delivered in the clutch, blasting a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2 and give the Lady Tigers new life.

Despite multiple opportunities to take the lead late, Coahoma couldn't capitalize. Meridian answered in the bottom half of the sixth when Delaney Perry lifted a sacrifice fly to score Charlee Smith, reclaiming a 3-2 advantage.

Isabella White closed the door in the circle for Meridian, pitching a complete game while allowing two runs and striking out four.

Coahoma showed grit in the nightcap, but ultimately couldn't overcome missed chances, as the Lady Tigers fell just short in a competitive finish.

Head Coach Wallace had great comments about the season and the Lady Tigers softball team:

"Growth and maturity were present in every player from where we started in the fall to now. We try to concentrate on the process, control what we can control and not worry so much about the outcome. Set daily individual and team goals and consistently accomplish them and the outcome will become a result of the consistent effort and work we have put in. Our team bought into this and we are proud of progress, but never satisfied."
