CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers dropped a doubleheader to Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday, falling 12-3 in Game 1 and 6-3 in Game 2.
Southwest Mississippi took control early in the opener, scoring in the second inning and extending the lead to 8-0 in the third.
Taylor Shingler started in the circle for Coahoma and allowed 12 runs, 11 earned, on 17 hits over 6 2/3 innings. She struck out four and walked three.
Annabelle Berryhill led Coahoma with two RBIs, going 1 for 2 at the plate. Kaylee Ables, Adrianna Catchings, Zakathryn Cameron and Laney Wallace each recorded a hit. Coahoma turned one double play.
Southwest Mississippi totaled 18 hits in Game 1 and did not commit an error.
In Game 2, Southwest Mississippi scored first in the third inning on a double and an error.
Coahoma answered in the bottom half of the inning. Destiny Benefield singled to drive in a run, and Berryhill added a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
Southwest Mississippi regained the lead in the fifth inning with a three-run single and held on for the win.
Benefield started for Coahoma and allowed six runs, three earned, on 11 hits over seven innings. She struck out one and did not issue a walk.
Coahoma recorded six hits in the game. Berryhill led the team with two RBIs, while Ables, Catchings, Mariah Nash, Benefield and Cameron each added a hit. Cameron drew two walks as the Lady Tigers worked four walks.
Southwest Mississippi finished with 11 hits in Game 2.
