Lady Tigers drop doubleheader to East Mississippi CC

CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers dropped a doubleheader to East Mississippi Community College on Wednesday, falling 10-4 in Game 1 and 9-7 in Game 2 after allowing 30 combined hits.

East Mississippi took control early in Game 1. Fralix doubled to score the first run in the opening inning, and Price added an RBI single in the second to make it 2-0.

Coahoma tied the game in the third when Zakathryn Cameron singled to center field, driving in two runs. East Mississippi answered in the bottom half of the inning as Newburn hit a two-run home run, followed by a home run from Sturgeon to extend the lead to 7-2.

Taylor Shingler started in the circle for Coahoma and allowed 10 runs on 14 hits over six innings, with no strikeouts and no walks.

Cameron led Coahoma at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Kaylee Ables added two hits, while Destiny Benefield drew two walks as the Lady Tigers totaled five walks.

East Mississippi finished with 14 hits in the opener. Newburn recorded three hits and drove in three runs, while Sturgeon also drove in three. Fralix, Saucier, Stewart and Bourgeois each collected multiple hits.

In Game 2, East Mississippi built an early lead in the first inning. Fralix singled to score one run, Stewart doubled to drive in two, and Mitchell added an RBI single.

East Mississippi added two runs in the third inning on RBI singles from Stewart and Earls.

Benefield started for Coahoma and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on 16 hits over six innings. She struck out two and did not issue a walk.

Coahoma recorded 12 hits in Game 2. Tykeria McCullum led the team with three hits, while Ables and McCullum each drove in two runs. Lazion Riley, Benefield and Laney Wallace each collected multiple hits.

East Mississippi totaled 16 hits in the second game. Stewart went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, while Stewart and Newburn each had three hits. Saucier, Earls and Mitchell also recorded multiple hits. East Mississippi stole six bases and turned three double plays.

Coahoma returns to action in its next scheduled matchup against Southwest Mississippi at home on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1 pm.
