Coahoma Community College Athletics recently released its 2023 football schedule. The Coahoma Tigers, who compete in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC), will play nine games during the regular season.
The Tigers' season will kick off their 2023 campaign on the road against the East Central Community College Warriors on September 7, 2723. The Tigers will return to Clarksdale for the home opener on September 14, facing the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears. Coahoma will remain in Clarksdale as they take on their heated rivals, the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans, on September 21.
The Tigers will then hit the road on September 28, facing the Holmes Community College Bulldogs.
Other notable games on the Tigers' schedule include Homecoming 2023 against the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves on October 7. CCC will return home to face the East Mississippi Community College Lions on October 12. Coahoma is back on the road on October 19 to face the Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College. As the season approaches its end, Coahoma will be in a battle of the big cats as they go claw for claw with the Tigers of Northeast Mississippi Community College.
The Tigers will close out their regular season with a home game against the Itawamba Community College Indians on November 2.
The Coahoma Tigers are led by first-year head coach Terrence Metcalf, who is taking the helm of CCC after the departure of former head coach Travis Macon. Under Metcalf's leadership, the Tigers aim to shake up a tough and talented league and make a big impact in the MACCC this season.
"I feel like coming out of spring ball, we answered some questions we needed to get answered," said Metcalf. "With our incoming freshmen and returners, we are in a better situation as a team from a talent standpoint."
The Tigers are excited to bring new talent to the quarterback position and see the addition as one that will breed major dividends for the Tigers' offensive scheme.
"We're bringing Jackson Allen in as quarterback out of Petal, Mississippi. Bringing him into the fold, we're excited about that and what he brings to the table offensively from a leadership standpoint," Metcalf added.
In addition to the regular season games, the Tigers have already participated in several preseason scrimmages and exhibition games leading up to the start of the season. These games have provided a valuable opportunity for the team to work on their skills and build chemistry before the regular season begins.
The Tigers have broken their 2023 plans into phases as they prepare for the start of the season. Metcalf sees a methodical approach as a key to Coahoma being ready for what he calls the "long stretch." He is proud that in those preparations, the Tigers have stayed healthy and ready to work.
"We've talked about phases as a group. Taking over the job in January, that was phase one, winter workouts, spring ball, and finishing spring ball with 99.9% of the team staying healthy and not losing anyone, was huge," said Metcalf. "I'm excited about the team overall. Now, we can talk about phase three, which is moving into summer workouts."
Overall, the release of the Coahoma Tigers' 2023 football schedule has generated excitement among fans and players alike. With a challenging schedule ahead of them, the Tigers will need to be at the top of their game if they hope to compete for a conference championship. Nevertheless, the team looks forward to showcasing their skills and making their mark in the MACCC this season.
