Coahoma Community College is pleased to announce that Jaquay Walls has been added to the CCC men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach. Head Coach Dell Cannon is pleased with the hire.

"Just bringing him along, that's more wins added to the table, that's more discipline added to the team," Cannon said. "He's a diamond. Remember I told you that; he's a diamond."

Walls played college basketball at Compton College and at the University of Colorado. During his two seasons with Colorado, Walls recorded impressive statistics and was named first-team all-conference in his senior season.

The New York native was drafted in the second round of the 2000 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. Walls' playing career ended after three years of professional basketball in France and Turkey.

Walls has approximately 15 combined years of coaching experience on the high school, AAU, and collegiate levels. He returns to the state of Mississippi where he spent multiple years as a coach at Mississippi Valley State University.

Cannon and Walls met each other on recruiting trips about 10 years ago. The duo has a close bond and have stayed in touch since they first met. But, this marks the first time that the pair will get to be on the same coaching staff.

"I'm excited to work with Coach Dell," Walls said. "He's a great coach; even better person. That's kind of always been one of my keys; try to surround yourself with good people. And I think when you have good people in your circle you can accomplish unbelievable things. I look forward to doing that here. We got a great group of guys."

Cannon believes that he and Walls share "a lot of the same core principles." Cannon also thinks that the addition is a perfect fit. When talking about the program, Cannon said, "We're here to get better; and win games; and graduate; and do it right."

The Tigers open their season with a home game against Northwest Mississippi Community College on Monday, Nov. 1. The game is currently scheduled to be played at 6:00 p.m.
