Box Score It's an exciting time for Coahoma Community College football fans. On Thursday night, the Tigers traveled to Fulton, Mississippi and defeated Itawamba Community College 22-20.
"Itawamba's a talented team," CCC offensive coordinator
Emmanuel McCray said. "I have a ton of respect for the coaching staff over there."
The Tigers scored the first touchdown of the game when quarterback
Mekhi Norris evaded multiple sacks and connected with
Kobee Lockett for a 10-yard touchdown. Coahoma led 6-0.
Itawamba answered with two touchdowns of its own, but CCC responded with a field goal from
William Payne. At halftime, ICC held a 14-9 lead.
In the third quarter, Coahoma took a 15-14 lead when
Jakobi Jackson scored off a four-yard touchdown run.
Arguably the most important play of the game occurred when Itawamba quarterback Dylan Faulk was intercepted by CCC's
Reginald Johnson around Itawamba's 24-yard line. Johnson returned the interception into the end zone for a Tigers' touchdown. The score was 22-14 in favor of CCC. McCray described the pick-six as "a huge sigh of relieve."
ICC went on to score a touchdown, but Coahoma made the necessary plays to emerge victorious 22-20.
Coahoma's next game is its homecoming game. The matchup against Mississippi Delta community College is slated for Saturday, Sept. 25, at 2:00 p.m. "I'm looking forward to that," McCray said when talking about CCC's homecoming environment. "We got something to play for. We got a good team; got a winning record. Hopefully they [the fans] come out and show out; not only just for the homecoming, but obviously (to) support these guys and be that 12th man for us."
