CLARKSDALE- Coahoma Community College Basketball is looking to go to greater lengths in 2019-20. Last season, the Tigers achieved a commendable amount of wins under Head Coach Michael Stringer.
Stringer has worked extremely hard in the offseason to put together a team that could compete for the MACJC Championship.
The Mighty Tigers were an experienced squad last season.
Dequan Morris,
Robert Boyd, and Denori Berry drove the squad forward as leaders. All three players made a huge impact and finished the season 8-15 and 3-9 in the MACJC North Division. The Tigers collected some huge victories and unforgettable performances.
Coahoma returns a group of sophomores with a load of experience. The athletic set of college men is prepared to lead the Tigers to the next level.
Cornelius Holly and
Tiras Bolden are very explosive offensively and defensively.
Kendall Richardson and
Tyler Berryhill bring some much-needed quickness, court vision, and accurate shooting.
"The sophomores bring a lot of leadership to this team and the ability to make critical plays," said Stringer. "I'm looking for them to continue the progress of this program on and off the court."
A refreshing new pack of freshmen has arrived eager to steer the Tiger ship.
Kenan Mitchell,
Cortez McCarty, Jalen Washington, and
Jamal Moore brings agility and distant shooting.
Jordan O'Neal,
Troy Johnson,
Stephon Isom, and
Cameron Bell offer length, swiftness, and impact.
Cavin Paige,
Nakia Daniel, and
Shammond Strickland are able to move with speed all across the court and pure court vision.
"I brought in a group of freshman that has a lot of structure in their lives," said Stringer. "They come from a structured home or played in a program with structure. This group is making my job easier because they want to be coached and developed into better men."
The biggest challenge for Coahoma is team chemistry. Stringer has been down that road before, and now he knows that if everyone is on the same page, the Tigers are unstoppable. "If we work hard and execute our style of play, we will have an outstanding season," he added.
The Tigers will be on the road for the first weekend of the season before their home opener against Arkansas Baptist on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 5 p.m.
They will open the MACJC North Conference play on the road against Northeast Mississippi Community College on Monday, December 9, 2019, at 7:30 p.m.
Coahoma will open the season in the Today's Power Tip-Off Classic at Camden, Arkansas. They will face Southern Arkansas University Tech on Friday, November 1, 2019, at 8 p.m. The Tigers will follow up with a second Tip-Off Classic matchup versus Connors State College on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 3 p.m. Viewers can catch the game online live at www.coahomasports.com/watch and on Coahoma's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
