Tigers Looking to Bounce Back In Home Opener

CLARKSDALE- Coahoma took a tough leap into the 2018 season in a 44-0 loss to Jones County. Head Coach Steven Miller and his coaching staff are working hard to turn things around in week 2. The Tigers had 19 players making their 1st career start. They have a lot to learn in the tough MACJC Conference. Coahoma will have a chance to right their wrongs in the home opener against Mississippi Gulf Coast this Thursday Night.

The Tigers had a tough time moving the ball last week. They had 108 total yards including 76 passing yards and 32 rushing yards. Jaylin Jones was held to six carries for 25 yards. Legend Moore gave a big spark with three catches for 33 yards and five returns for 71 yards. Myron Norfleet was 9 of 24 for 77 yards and one interception.

Coahoma's defense will have to set the tone against a dangerous Bulldogs offense. Kyle Jones, Tony Bowman, and Didravious Henry made a big impact up front. Luckily, Shatar McClay and Demetric Vance have the ability to make a big play for the Tigers.

The Tigers faced one Southeastern Conference transfer quarterback in Stetson Bennett. Now they will face another in Mississippi Gulf Coast quarterback and LSU transfer Lowell Narcisse.

Mississippi Gulf Coast had a 52-0 victory over Mississippi Delta last week. They had 572 total yards that included 345 passing yards and 227 rushing yards. Narcisse and Chance Lovertich combined for 20 of 22 passes for 345 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bulldogs has won 19 of 21 games against the Tigers. The two teams last met in Clarksdale was in August of 2013, resulting in a 63-14 victory for Mississippi Gulf Coast. Coahoma's last victory against the Bulldogs was in the fall of 2010, in a 34-31 victory.

The Tigers is expecting a big crowd at the James E. Miller Stadium. They are looking for their first home-opening victory since Aug. 28, 2008. Coahoma defeated East Central 47-31.

The kickoff will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch and on our college radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
