Box Score ELLISVILLE- Coahoma had a tough season opener at #9 Jones County on Thursday night. They came into the game with 19 players making their debut as starters. The Tigers and Bobcats engaged in a very competitive dogfight early with a scoreless 1st quarter. Jones County settled in and made big plays in a 44-0 victory.
The Bobcats showed up on the scoreboard 7-0 when Stetson Bennett connected with Immanuel Jones for a 29-yard touchdown. Coahoma made a big miscue on special teams when a high snap went over Punter/Kicker Chasten Lamb. He recovered it at the Tigers' five-yard line.
Jones County took advantage with a five-yard touchdown by Kalyn Grandberry, extending the lead to 14-0.
Legend Moore gave Coahoma a spark with a 39-yard kickoff return. The Tigers had their best drive of the game but came up short. Myron Norfleet threw an incomplete pass intended for
Stefan Harmon on 4th and Goal at the 12-yard line.
"We didn't really know what we would have on the field," said Coahoma Head Coach
Steven Miller. "We have new faces and new talent to go against; the no. 9 team is a tough way to break them in."
Bennett started to get things going for the Bobcats. He connected with Nataurean Watts for a 45-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0.
Grandberry scored a one-yard touchdown at the horn, which marked the end of the 1st half. The Bobcats take a commanding 28-0 lead at the half.
Jones County kept the crowd cheering in the second half. Fred Barnum connected with Gabe Rodgers for a 32-yard touchdown. Jones made his 2nd touchdown with a nine-yard run. Chistofer Thompson got on the board with a 35-yard field goal.
The Bobcats had 451 total yards including 272 passing yards and 179 rushing yards. Bennett led Jones County with 14 of 21 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Grandberry finished with 28 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
Coahoma had 108 total yards including 76 passing yards and 32 rushing yards.
Jaylin Jones led the Tigers with six carries for 25 yards. Moore finished with three catches for 33 yards and five returns for 71 yards. Norfleet was 9 of 24 for 77 yards and one interception.

"Our team played with a lot of energy and excitement early in the game," said Miller. "The game slowed down for Jones, but we slowed down more than the game did."
Coahoma's goes to 0-1 on the season. They will have a chance to bounce back in their home opener against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday, Sept. 6. The Kickoff will be 7 p.m. at the James E.
