Box Score CLARKSDALE- It was Sophomore Day for the Coahoma Tigers as they played against Blue Mountain College on Monday Afternoon. The Tigers had a shaky start and the Toppers took advantage in a 3-1 victory in game 1. Coahoma had a better finish in game 2 by scoring two runs in extra innings for a 10-9 victory at Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex.
In the 1st game, Coahoma watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 3-1 loss.
Blue Mountain got things started with a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Tori Angulo got a 2-RBI double.
Coahoma got on the scoreboard 2-1 in the 3rd inning.
Kanisha Hodges scored on a wild pitch.
The Toppers extended the lead on a groundout RBI by Annabelle Pierce.
Blue Mountain scattered eight hits in the game. Cheyenne Meadors and Josie Anderson each racked up multiple hits. Meadors led the Toppers with three hits in four at-bats.
Brittney Boozer toed the rubber for Blue Mountain. She surrendered one run on five hits over seven innings, striking out five.
Mekayla Hubbard led things off on the hill for Coahoma; allowing eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Coahoma totaled five hits. Hodges and
Precious Sanders each had multiple hits. Sanders and Hodges each collected two hits to lead the Tigers.
In the 2nd game, Coahoma came back in dramatic walk-off fashion in a 10-9 victory. The Tigers were down 9-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning when
Alicia Witherspoon hit the game-winning 2-RBI single.
In the first inning, Blue Mountain got their offense started 2-0 when Taylor Smith got an RBI single.
Coahoma notched six runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead. The Tigers' offense in the inning was led by Sanders, Witherspoon
Kelsia Rogers, ShaTerika Bernard, and
Brooke Saez, who all drove in runs.
A five-run lead wasn't enough for Coahoma to hold off Blue Mountain College for the victory. Blue Mountain College scored seven runs in a big comeback on an error in the fifth, a groundout by Smith in the fifth, a stolen base by Daly Dufrene and Josie Anderson in the seventh, and a stolen base by Danielle Jimenez in the eighth.
Dufrene led Blue Mountain with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with seven stolen bases.
Annabelle Smith led things off on the hill for Blue Mountain. She surrendered one run on three hits over two innings, striking out three. Paige Taylor threw five and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Hubbard got the start for Coahoma. She allowed four hits and eight runs over eight innings, striking out three.
Coahoma had ten hits in the game. Sanders and Witherspoon all managed multiple hits. Witherspoon and Sanders each managed two hits to lead the Tigers.
Coahoma Softball honored the graduating sophomores of 2018 with a special ceremony.

The Tigers go to (1-27) on the season.
