Box Score CLARKSDALE- Coahoma Community College played their first home game in two weeks and had their sights on their first victory of the season against Northwest Mississippi Community College. The Tigers made big plays defensively but couldn't generate any offense. The Rangers held Coahoma to no runs and a combined six hits in an (8-0 and 3-0) doubleheader victory for Northwest.
In the 1st game, Coahoma fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 8-0 loss. Northwest took an early 3-0 lead; scoring on a double by Katie Brownlee and a single by Alexis McShan in the first inning.
The Tigers struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Northwest, giving up eight runs. A single by
Alicia Witherspoon in the second inning was a positive for Coahoma.
Harley Smith got the start for Northwest. She allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking one.
The Rangers (9-11, 3-7 MACJC) had eight hits in the game. Brownlee, McShan, and Ally Judkins, each collected multiple hits for the Rangers.
Mekayla Hubbard was on the mound for Coahoma. She allowed eight hits and eight runs over six innings, striking out three. Witherspoon and ShaTerika Bernard each collected one hit to lead the Tigers.
In the 2nd game, both teams were strong on the mound, but Northwest was stronger at the plate resulting in a 3-0 victory for the Rangers.
Brownlee got Northwest on the board 2-0 with a 2-run homer in the third inning. The Rangers scored a run on an infield error by Coahoma extending the lead 3-0. McShan scored from 3rd base on the error.
Coahoma was held to no runs and three hits.
Faith Harrington gave the Tigers hope with a single in the seventh inning. The Rangers made three straight outs to end the game.
Katie Brownlee was on the mound for Northwest. She surrendered zero runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Hubbard got the start for Coahoma. She surrendered three runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
Sanders, Harrington, and
Kanisha Hodges each managed one hit to lead the Tigers.
The Tigers go to (0-14, 0-12 MACJC) on the season.
