Tigers Lose Tough Road Game Against #1 Bobcats

ELLISVILLE– Coahoma Community College had to step their game up to another level on Friday afternoon. Jones County Community College was #1 in the NJCAA and ready for battle. The Bobcats showed worthy of their #1 ranking with a dominating performance. They swept the doubleheader against the Tigers (8-0 and 16-0).

In the 1st game, Coahoma fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 8-0 loss. Jones County Junior College scored on a groundout by Taylor Murray and a groundout by Hailie Donald in the first inning. 

The Tiger Varsity struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Jones County, giving up eight runs.  

A single by Mekayla Hubbard in the fifth inning was a positive for the Tigers. 

Donald was on the mound for Jones County. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out six and walking zero. 

Hubbard led things off on the hill for Coahoma. She allowed two hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out two. 

Hubbard and Faith Harrington each collected one hit to lead the Tigers. 

In the 2nd game, Coahoma watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 16-0 loss. Jones County scored on a single by Nancy Williams, an error, a double by Angel Guyton, a double by Bailey Gilbert, a single by Simone McKinney, and a home run by Keisha Lofton in the first inning. 

The Tigers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Jones County, giving up 16 runs. 

One bright spot for Coahoma was a single by Kelsia Rogers in the fourth inning. 

Karli Perque led things off on the hill for Jones County. She went one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking zero. 

Jones County hit two home runs on the day. Lofton went for the long ball in the first inning. Gilbert went yard in the third inning.

Jones County Junior College racked up 15 hits in the game. Gilbert, Donald, and Mickinney each racked up multiple hits for Jones County Junior College. 

Mekayla Hubbard got the start for Coahoma. She went four innings, allowing 16 runs on 15 hits, striking out one and walking one. 

Rogers and Hubbard each collected one hit to the Tigers.

The Tigers go to (0-10, 0-8 MACJC) on the season. They will continue MACJC Conference play against East Central Community College. The game is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 18, 2018, in Decatur, MS. It will be part of a doubleheader followed by game two at 5 p.m.
