Box Score CLARKSDALE– Coahoma Community College celebrated Basketball Homecoming 2018, Saturday Afternoon at The Pinnacle. The Tigers played their second game in two days against Southern University-Shreveport. Both teams battled in a hard-fought matchup. The Jaguars outscored Coahoma 12-6 in the last 5 minutes to get the 74-68 victory.
Malik Bailey scored a pair of layups giving Coahoma an early 7-2 lead. SUSLA's Robinson scored five straight points tying the game 7-7. Bailey answered with a three-pointer to give the Tigers a 10-7 lead. Taylor scored a driving layup that tied the game 11-11. Artis hit a three-pointer to give the Jaguars a 14-11 lead.
Southern-Shreveport had their biggest lead at 27-21 over the Tigers. Coahoma went on a 9-2 run to take a 30-29 lead. Quintarius Boatman contributed in the scoring run with a three-pointer. The Jaguars soon answered 31-30 with a layup by Taylor.
The Tigers bounced back with a three-pointer by DeNori Berry. Courtney Stovall scored a layup and three-point play giving Coahoma a 39-35 halftime lead.
Coahoma had a 62-58 lead with 6:39 remaining in the game. Dayton Artis and Larry Robinson stepped up for Southern-Shreveport with a pair of layups tying the game at 62-62. Robinson knocked down a three-pointer giving the Jaguars a 65-62 lead. Marcus Summerville scored a driving layup to cut the lead to 65-64.
Southern-Shreveport (4-9) answered with a layup by Artis extending the lead to 67-64. Zach Taylor puts the game away with a driving layup to give the Jaguars a commanding 70-66 lead.
Southern-Shreveport had three players scored in double figures. Robinson led the Jaguars with 27 points, two rebounds, and four assists. Artis finished with 20 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Taylor scored 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Coahoma had two players scored in double figures. Morris led the Tigers with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Bailey finished with 13 points and two rebounds.
Coahoma goes to (2-12) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Northwest Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at The Pinnacle.
It will be part of a doubleheader preceded by Coahoma vs. Northwest Mississippi women's game at 6:00 p.m.
