MOORHEAD — The CCC Lady Tiger Softball team earned its first 2 MACJC victories of the season Monday at Mississippi Delta, downing the Lady Trojans 6-5 and 6-4. The team will meet Delta again at home in a rescheduled doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers got out to a 5-0 lead in Game 1 only to have Delta come all the way back to 5-5 through 6 innings. The team got a final run in the 7th and held on for a 6-5 win. Jakyhah Netterville and Ann Jones each picked up 2 hits in the victory. Breiana Trevino and Gabrielle Crain combined to pitch 7 innings, scattering 10 hits and surrendering just 2 earned runs. Crain picked up the victory.
CCC fell behind 2-0 in Game 2 before roaring back with 6 runs in the final 3 innings to earn a 6-4 win. Crain once again picked up the W by working 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs (2 earned) while striking out 2. The freshman from Lafayette, LA gave up just 2 runs over the game's final 6 innings. Shalottie Dawson and Kambresha Griffin each had 2 RBIs for the Lady Tigers. Trevino finished with 2 hits, 2 runs scored and an RBI of her own.
The wins marked the 4th and 5th for the Lady Tigers since March 29th. The team has now scored victories over Arkansas Baptist, Southwest Tennessee and Mississippi Delta this season.
The Lady Tigers will battle Delta again tomorrow at the Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex in a reschedule of a doubleheader originally scheduled for February. First pitch will be at 1 pm.
