ELLISVILLE– Coahoma Community College had a big comeback, but came up short 78-74 against Jones County Junior College. The Bobcats had their largest lead 60-48 with 12:09 left in the game. The Tigers started chipping away at the lead. They outscored Jones County 21-16 in the last 10:50 of the game.
Malik Bailey and Marcus Summerville hit consecutive three pointers to cut the lead to 72-69 with 1:36 left. Then, DeQuan Morris got a steal and Bailey attempted a three pointer for the tie, but came up short.
Jones County came up big by making six straight free throws in the final 1:13 to put the game away.
The Bobcats took control early in the game with consecutive layups by Malik Henry and Winceton Edwards, to take a 21-17 lead.
The Tigers answered and took the lead 35-33 on a three pointer by DeNori Berry and layup by Dykellius Grandberry.
Henry came up big with a three pointer with three seconds remaining to give Jones County a 36-35 lead at the half.
The Bobcats had three players in double figures. Henry led Jones County with 27 points, Edwards scored 15 points, and David McCoy had 10 points.
Bailey led the Tigers with 27 points, Grandberry scored 12 points, and Berry scored 9 points.
Coahoma goes to 1-1 on the season. They will continue on the road against Southwest Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 8 p.m. on Monday Nov. 6, 2017 in Summit, MS.
It will be part of a double header that's preceded by Coahoma vs Southwest Mississippi women's game at 6 p.m.
