CLARKSDALE– Coahoma Community College Basketball had a tough start to the season. Head Coach Michael Stringer knows that his team has been working hard and making progress. He believes that in the team's motto "Trust The Process."
The hard work finally started to pay off. The Mighty Tigers overcame adversity and made big plays in a 81-71 victory against East Central Community College on Monday Night at The Pinnacle.
East Central (1-3) had their biggest lead at 46-35 with 18:46 remaining in the game. Coahoma went on a 13-0 run. DeNori Berry and Tarquise Harris hits back to back three pointers tying the game at 46. Then Daquon Morris scores a driving layup to give Coahoma a 48-46 lead with 14:53 remaining.
The Warriors tied the game 48-48 with a layup by Cameron Diggs. Harris answers with a three pointer to give the Tigers a 51-48 lead. Jaquan Dotson hits a three pointer for East Central tying the game 51-51. Then Berry answers with a three pointer to give Coahoma the lead 54-51 with 12:00 remaining.
The game was back and forth all in the second half. East Central had a 66-65 lead with 4:28 left in the game. The Tigers outscored the Warriors 16-5 to close out the victory.
"It was about time we got a close victory. We been in a lot of close games this year," said Stringer. "Our players had overcome adversity and things were finally going our way."
East Central had three players in double figures. Dotson led the Warriors with 22 points and eight rebounds. Diggs finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Antonio Clark had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Coahoma had three players in double figures. Berry led the Tigers with 31 points including 8 three pointers. Morris finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Harris had 12 points including four 3 pointers. The Tigers knocked down 14 three pointers.
Coahoma goes to 2-5 on the season. Coahoma will get a chance at payback against Southwest Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 8 p.m. on Monday Nov. 27, 2017 at The Pinnacle.
It will be part of a double header that's proceeded by Coahoma vs Southwest Mississippi women's game at 6 p.m.
