SHREVEPORT – The Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers had a successful weekend at the Johnny Vance Classic. They outplayed and dominated Southern University of Shreveport 72-57.
Lameka President and Nikkeria Harris scored on a pair of layups to give Coahoma an early 12-8 lead. Southern Shreveport bounced back when Taliyah Fary hit a jumper to cut the lead to 12-10.
The Lady Tigers then went on a 13-1 run. Geneva Walker knocked down back to back three pointers to extend the lead to 25-11.
The Lady Jaguars made things interesting by outscoring Coahoma 13-10 in the last three minutes of the first half. Fary scored on a driving layup at the buzzer cutting the lead to 35-24 at the half.
The Lady Tigers pulled away in the third quarter. Harris scored on a driving layup to extend the lead to 47-30.
Then Harris came up big in the fourth quarter with a three pointer. That gave the Lady Tigers a commanding 66-46 lead.
Southern Shreveport had two players in double figures. Ty Shaw led the Lady Jags with 18 points. Fary finished with 12 points.
Coahoma knocked down 10 three pointers. They had three players finish in double figures. Walker led the Lady Tigers with a season high 26 points, including 5 three pointers. Harris finished with 20 points, including 3 three pointers. President scored 12 points, including 2 three pointers.
Coahoma goes to 2-4 on the season. The Lady Tigers are back at The Pinnacle against East Central Community College. The game is set for this Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at 6 p.m.
It will be part of a double header that's followed by Coahoma vs East Central men's game at 8 p.m.
