Lady Tigers advance in Region 23 Tournament to cap resilient season

Coahoma overcomes mid-season transition to secure 17 regular-season victories

CLARKSDALE, Miss. – The Coahoma Community College women's basketball team advanced to the second round of the Region 23 Tournament after earning a first-round victory in front of supportive home crowd.

Following a coaching transition in the middle of the season, the Lady Tigers rallied together, committing themselves to the process, the work, and to one another. That determination translated into phenomenal results on the court, as Coahoma finished the regular season with a 17-8 overall record. Earning the No. 8 seed in a competitive 15-team conference was an outcome few predicted at the start of the season.

The Lady Tigers displayed perseverance, grit, and a relentless work ethic throughout the year.  While not every victory came easily, each win reflected the team's resilience and dedication to competing at a high level.

"The season hasn't been perfect, but its meaning runs deeper than the record," said head coach Deneshia Faulkner. "It's the story of a group of young women who refused to be defined by outside expectations. They chose to fight, believe in one another, and prove that resilience and heart can rewrite the narrative".

In her first season leading the program, Faulkner and the Lady Tigers developed a strong bond built on trust, accountability, and determination. What began as a group of individuals unfamiliar with one another grew into a team united by purpose and pride."What more could a coach ask for than a group of young women who show up every day ready to work and compete?" Faulkner added, "Over the past several months, this team has been extraordinary".

The season laid a strong foundation for the future of Coahoma women's basketball, setting the tone for incoming players and ensuring the program is moving in the right direction.
