CLARKSDALE - CCC Softball opened its season this past past week with doubleheaders vs. Jackson State CC and at Mississippi Delta. It returns to action this Wednesday with a rematch against JSCC in Jackson, TN.

Opening the season February 17th against the Lady Generals at the Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex, the Lady Tigers kept the Jackson State squad off the board for the first 2 innings, using a key double play and some impressive defensive stands to hold strong behind starter Sha'Nico Morris. The Lady General bats came to life in the 3rd though with a 3-run HR by Candace Maness to break up the scoreless game. The Lady Generals would go on to win Game 1 9-0 and take Game 2 12-0. 

Friday, the team traveled to MS Delta to open up their road schedule against the Lady Trojans, falling 12-2. Destiny Hatten helped score the first runs of the season for the Lady Tigers on a 2-RBI triple to right-center in the 2nd inning that scored Adrianna Bilbro and Briana Gilliard.

The Lady Trojans earned their second victory of the afternoon, 13-4 in Game 2. Hatten once again picked up a 2 RBI the game - driving in Markelia Cross with a single in the 3rd and Amarhi Williams with a single in the 4th. Williams and Kadajah Babbitt were able to drive in runs as well for a Lady Tiger squad that scored 4 times over the 3rd and 4th frames but was unable to overcome an early deficit. 

"Consistency will be a large factor in the rest of our season. We have to work hard and just compete to be in the game in the 7th," said first-year head coach Erin Smith. "Hitting and pitching will be the main focus of the next few days as well as staying focused on positive progress and learning from each mistake and/or errors."

First pitch at Jackson State is slated for 2 pm Wednesday.
