CLARKSDALE — Coahoma Community College has announced that it will be parting ways with Head Football Coach Karl Morgan after two seasons. The search for a new coach will begin immediately, and the new head coach will be afforded the opportunity to bring in his own staff.
In the interim, former Tigers football coach and current Athletic Director Freeman Horton will move forward with recruiting and coaching duties.
"After thoughtful consideration, the decision has been made to relieve Coach Morgan of his head coaching duties," said CCC Chief Communications Officer Matthew Killebrew. "We would like to thank Karl for his commitment and efforts to move our football program forward. He did many things behind the scenes that have helped to lay a foundation for improvement."
The Tigers were 0-18 with Morgan at the helm, and finished at the bottom of the MACJC. Killebrew said there was no underlying story or reason for Morgan's dismissal, just that the school is looking for the program to progress forward.
"Coach Morgan is a man of integrity, and great character," Killebrew said. "He changed the attitudes of Coahoma players and the culture surrounding the program. However, the bottom line in any sport is putting up wins, and the school and its administration is committed to trying to make that happen."
The school has not set a timeline for hiring a new coach, but Killebrew said the school will move forward expeditiously with the process.
