CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College football team returns to James E. Miller Stadium to host Itawamba Community College in a crucial Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference North Division matchup on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
The Tigers (0-4, 0-1 MACCC North) are looking to bounce back and secure their first win of the season following a narrow 36-33 road loss to Holmes Community College. Despite the defeat, Coahoma dominated the ground game, racking up 304 total rushing yards. Running back Issac Day led the charge with a standout 184-yard performance highlighted by an 83-yard touchdown run, while Prentavis Madison added 117 rushing yards. Quarterback Jacob Clopton also contributed heavily on the ground, finding the end zone for two rushing touchdowns.
Itawamba (3-1, 1-0 MACCC North) arrives in Clarksdale riding the momentum of a dominant 31-0 shutout victory over Northeast Mississippi Community College last week. The Indians' offense generated 303 total yards, spearheaded by quarterback Brayden Trusty, who completed 22 of 26 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns. Trusty's top targets include Ashton Blanchard and Caleb Groce, who tallied 59 and 52 receiving yards against Northeast Mississippi, respectively.
The matchup will feature strength against strength in the trenches. Coahoma's offensive line, fresh off paving the way for over 300 rushing yards, will be tested by a disruptive Itawamba defensive front that registered seven sacks and nine tackles for loss in their shutout win, led by defensive lineman Allen Dobbs' two sacks. On the other side of the ball, a Coahoma defense that recorded three sacks and six tackles for loss against Holmes will look to apply pressure to Trusty and slow down the Indians' passing attack.
