Coahoma announces Nadia Crawford as head coach for inaugural women's volleyball season

CLARKSDALE, Miss. - Coahoma Community College will host an introductory press conference on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 a.m. to officially announce Nadia Crawford, as the head coach for its inaugural women's volleyball program.

The event will take place inside the Coahoma County Safe Room and Storm Shelter, located at 3240 Friars Point Road on the Coahoma Community College campus in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

The launch of the women's volleyball program marks a historic milestone for the institution's athletic department. Coahoma now joins 11 of the 15 Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference schools in offering the sport, strengthening the college's athletic offerings and expanding its recruiting footprint.

"The launch of women's volleyball is an exciting and historic moment for Coahoma Community College Athletics," said Mrs. Reid, athletic director. "We are thrilled to welcome Coach Nadia Crawford to the Coahoma Tiger Family as the inaugural head volleyball coach. Coach Crawford brings a passion for student-athlete development, a clear vision for building a successful program, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the court."

Reid noted that the program creates another avenue for students to earn a college education, achieve their athletic goals, and prepare for success in all aspects of life.

"What makes this opportunity especially meaningful is that our inaugural student-athletes will help build the foundation of Coahoma Tiger Volleyball," Reid added. "They will establish the culture, set the standard, and create a lasting legacy for future generations."

Crawford, who played collegiate volleyball at Mississippi Valley State University and ranked among the program's top 10 all-time leaders in digs in 2017, brings a strong background in program development to the Mississippi Delta. Prior to joining Coahoma, she established the first volleyball program in Leflore County High School history, guiding the team to its first playoff appearance during its inaugural season. She also successfully revived the volleyball program at Gentry High School after a 20-year hiatus.

"Building a new college volleyball team from scratch is a multi-year project," Crawford said. "To be most successful, I am going to focus on culture, recruiting, player development, and operational stability before worrying about wins and losses."

Crawford emphasized her dedication to building a competitive, disciplined, student-centered program that prioritizes the personal and academic growth of her players.

"What excites me most is the opportunity to provide student-athletes with a pathway to continue pursuing the sport they love while earning a degree," Crawford said. "Being part of a program that helps shape future leaders, both on and off the court, is a responsibility and privilege that I am eager to embrace. I believe we have the foundation, support, and vision necessary to build something truly impactful at Coahoma."
