CLARKSDALE, Miss. - The Coahoma Community College football team fell 48-21 to East Mississippi Community College on Thursday, Oct. 8, at James E. Miller Stadium.
Despite the final score, Coahoma quarterback
Jacob Clopton delivered a strong performance through the air, completing 13 of 24 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver
Abraylen Jenkins was his top target, hauling in four receptions for 51 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard scoring strike in the third quarter.
East Mississippi controlled the tempo early, building a 20-0 lead before Coahoma found the end zone late in the second quarter. Clopton connected with
Jaden Moses for a five-yard touchdown pass to cap a 12-play, 70-yard drive, trimming the deficit to 20-7 with 1:53 remaining in the first half. East Mississippi extended their lead to 27-7 with a 16-yard rushing touchdown just before the halftime break.
Coahoma came out swinging in the third quarter when Clopton found Jenkins for a 55-yard touchdown just under five minutes into the half, cutting the lead to 27-14. Following another East Mississippi rushing score, the Tigers answered again as Clapton hit Jenkins for a two-yard touchdown, making it a 34-21 game with 1:32 left in the third quarter.
East Mississippi secured the victory by adding two passing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to push the final score to 48-21. The visitors produced 573 yards of total offense, while Coahoma finished with 220 total yards.
Defensively,
Josh Gale led Coahoma with 10 total tackles, followed closely by
Ardavis Harris with eight tackles. Lesten Westbrooks added seven tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. The Tigers also received an offensive spark from
Demarcus Brown, who recorded a 61-yard reception.
