CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College Tigers return to James E. Miller Stadium on Thursday evening when they host East Mississippi Community College in a Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference North Division match up.
Coahoma enters Thursday's contest looking to bounce back from a difficult road trip to Northwest Mississippi Community College while continuing North Division play at home.
The Tigers showed offensive production during their previous two conference games, including a 42-41 loss to Itawamba Community College on Sept. 24 before traveling to Northwest last Thursday.
Against Northwest, Coahoma quarterback
Jacob Clopton completed 15 of 24 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown, connecting with wide receiver
Jaden Moses on an 18-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Moses finished the game with 10 receptions for 76 yards, giving him a team-high in receiving yards.
On the ground,
Prentavis Madison carried 15 times for 38 yards, while Clopton added 29 rushing yards on nine attempts. The Tigers finished with 191 total yards, including 120 passing yards and 71 rushing yards. Coahoma also converted five of 12 third-down opportunities and held the ball for 31:22. Defensively, Deshun Brooks led Coahoma with six total tackles against Northwest.
Jason Spencer and
Derrion Gould each recorded four total tackles as the Tigers continued to compete against one of the conference's top programs.
The Tigers have demonstrated the ability to move the football throughout the season. Through six games, Coahoma has accumulated 2,084 yards of total offense, averaging 347.3 yards per game. The Tigers have produced 1,065 rushing yards and 1,019 passing yards, while averaging 22.5 points per game.
Clopton has remained an important part of that offensive production, while the Tigers' rushing attack has featured Madison and
Isaac Day. Earlier in the season, Day rushed for 184 yards against Holmes, while Madison produced 117 rushing yards in that same contest.
East Mississippi enters James E. Miller Stadium as the Tigers' next North Division challenge, giving Coahoma another opportunity to compete on its home field and continue building on the progress shown throughout the season.
Thursday's match up is part of a five-game home schedule for the Tigers, with East Mississippi  being the third home game in the set of 5. To be followed later in the season by Homecoming against Northeast Mississippi Community College and the regular-season finale against Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
As North Division play continues, the Tigers will look to put together a complete performance in front of the home crowd Thursday night. Kickoff is scheduled for
6:30 p.m.
